CUP FINALS 1 v 1

Game 4 tonight had two possible different outcomes; A sweep by the odds on favorites to win the cup or a win to breathe life into a team searching for a repeat. Unfortunately, for Chicago, it wasn't the latter.  Buffalo down 4-3 in the 3rd, scored three 3rd period goals to win the game, the series and their first BRHL2 Stanley Cup. Sidney Crosby was awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy for being the MVP of the playoffs. His timely assists were a constant threat for the Sabres throughout the post-season. Congratulations to GM Luke Wile of the Sabres on winning the cup. Also, congratulations to Chicago GM's David Yee and George Bachul. Last but not least, thank you to every other GM in the league. It's another season in the books as the league somehow grows stronger heading to season 4.  Box score

Series: BUF wins 0-4

BRHL2 Early Mock Draft
By Jordan Hansford

Draft Order as of 1/4/09 –
[Compensatory picks nor the draft lottery were not considered.]

1. Atlanta – How he has this pick I do not know but Kirk is ecstatic! The team has decent depth up front, but not so much on defense. The pick should be Stamkos. After a tough start to the season he has turned it on and shown the future is very bright. I see a trade here, moving a few picks down to get a defenseman. NJ certainly would consider a move up.

2. Los Angeles – A team with lots of needs will take BPA. Lucic, Ballard, Rask are all great young players to build a team around. They would love for Stamkos to fall to them. If not BPA is Doughty.

3. NYI – Could this team have more prospects. They need for more of them to start turning heads. Top to bottom the team needs help. The question is do they want immediate help, or do they go for a guy they think might turn out as a franchise forward. I always say, BPA, especially early in the draft and several BRHL2 ready guys are available here. Zach Bogosian, though troubled by a fractured leg, has been outstanding in Atlanta of the NHL and should be the pick here.

4. Ottawa – Rob has team in full rebuild and will take BPA. Schenn, Filatov and Hodgson all get consideration here. This really comes down to who Rob likes best. I am going to say it is Hodgson.

5. Anaheim – The first of their 3 firsts... Ana 1, Clb 1, Cal 1. Rob is building a young, good team slow but surely. He will take BPA. He has good youth in nets with Schneider and Pogge (though has not been strong this season), up front with Turris, Grabovski, Foligno, Bolland, Mattias, and Voracek. Defense though, past Carle and Lashoff there is not much. Schenn is the pick.

6. New Jersey – I would love it if Bogosian, Schenn or Hodgson falls to me. If they don’t or I do not move up, I might trade down. The next BPA, in my opinion is Filatov, but I am not a big Euro fan if they do not play goal. Forward is my main need going forward so I will maintain that Filatov is the pick here.

7. Carolina – The team has a bright future already with great players such as Spezza, Meszaros and in nets Kiprussoff. Good youth supporting as well. Rick may package this pick to get a more established player. If not, he will go for BPA. Alex Pietrangelo had a cup of coffee in NHL this season and will play more next. He is the pick.

8. Vancouver – The first of Chris’ two first round picks. Van 1, Dal 1. Decent young defense corps with Whitney, Lee, and Campoli. Aging vets with a few young guys up front. He hopes that Esposito continues to develop. BRHL2 ready forward is the go here. Boedker or Bailey. I will go with Boedker.

9. Toronto – Garrett always seems to find an early pick via trades. He certainly will go BPA. He has a decent corps of players, but the loss of Cherepanov to his tragic heart difficulties hurts the youth depth some. He still has Brandon Sutter, Cal Clutterbuck coming with a generally young BRHL2 roster (Nash, Richards, Clowe, Staal, Kobasew, Staal, Morrisson, Komisarek). It is definitely BPA. Some people will debate this. Wilson has been strong in NCAA, but it is NCAA. Bailey, though frail and needing to put on some muscle, has fared well in the NHL. Josh Bailey is the pick

10. Washington – Alex has some nice youngsters coming. Frolik had a breakout NHL season. And Steve Mason will get consideration for all the major awards. He is a shoo in for the Calder. He may win the Vezina. And will get consideration for the Hart trophy. Youth is clearly the day with the Caps. Statsny, Backstrom, Bergeron, Booth, Perry, Barker, Niskanen, Stuart are a fantastic corps. This is a BPA to improve the depth of this young up and coming team. Colin Wilson is the pick.

11. Anaheim – 2nd pick of the first round. BPA. Everyone’s list will be different from around this point. Most people would agree with the players in the first ten, though orders may be slightly different. Do you go with a hard nosed but possibly trouble Beach. A towering dman who is a few years away in Myers. A goalie? A BRHL2 ready dman in Sbisa. With the earlier pick of Schenn I am going to say a forward. Next best available are Beach, Eberle, Boychuk. I am going to go with the high risk, high reward Beach. With three firsts, Anaheim can take a flier. He nearly made the Hawks out of camp and I suspect in the NHL next season.

12. Atlanta – Another first rounder for Kirk. Love in for Oilers may mean Eberle is taken. But with Turco not getting any younger, I suspect he may go a bit off the board and take Markstrom.

13. Florida – First of Rich’s three firsts. Phi 1, Fla 1, StL 1. The team has lots of youth coming with Oshie, Hickey, Artyukin, Krejci, Little, Olesz, Ladd, Kostistsyn, Coburn, Suter. BPA will be the go. Sbisa is ready to jump into the lineup and is the pick.

14. Atlanta – Kirk’s third pick in the top 15. In such a strong draft, he gets three potential stars. Jordan Eberle is the pick and the Oiler love in between the Shuck’s continues.

15. Minnesota - Derek and Cam have lots of depth with a huge roster. Their is a good mix of youth and veterans. Wolski, O’Sullivan, Hamhuis, Enstrom are the future of the club. Their is no hurry to rush prospects on this team and the BPA is the go. Tyler Myers is huge in size and talent and is the next pick.

16. Los Angeles – with another pick, Tim will take the BPA to further stock the cupboards. The team could go in a few different ways. With likely a dman with their first pick if they stay at 2nd overall, a forward would be preferred. But goaltenders and dmen are the BPA at this point. Teubert, Carlson, Karlsson are the best players from the point. Pickard might be a pick in nets, but with Rask, is not really a need pick. Boychuk is the pick, but with injury history is a risk.

17. Edmonton – James will take the best player available. Pierre McGuire would call his pick of Erik Karlsson a monster and a steal at 17. He is the pick.

18. Anaheim – Rob’s third pick of the opening round. He already has Beach and Schenn. Do they go the circuit and get a franchise tender? Pogge and Schneider are decent goaltending prospect depth but you can always use more. Pickard may be the pick here. But Teubert is still there and the chance to add two defensive stalwarts is too difficult to pass up. He is the pick.

19. Florida – 2nd pick of the first round. BPA is still the go as the rebuild continues. Some may question my pick in this position but John Carlson is the man. Big, strong and great on the puck he has excelled as a rookie in the OHL for the Knights. With the offensive system in Washington of the NHL, he will have a chance to excel in future.

20. Vancouver – 2nd pick of the first round. Great forward with first pick that will help right away in Boedker. They will stick to their draft board and grab another forward. Guys who will get consideration are Joe Colborne, Greg Nemisz and Viktor Tikhonov. Another BRHL2 ready forward is the go and Tik is off the board.

21. Anaheim – final first round pick. They take the BPA and a bit of a project. Joe Colborne may be the next Joe Thornton. Big with soft hands, he had an outstanding freshman year in the NCAA. He is 2-3 years away but will be good. He might get taken earlier, but if there, the Ducks will call him to the flock.

22. Chicago – Hawks first of three picks. The team has a solid corps of veterans and youth on the BRHL2 roster but little prospects past Pacioretty. BPA is the go here. It may be time to start developing a tender. Thomas Mccollum? Dustin Tokarski? Mike Murphy? Other considerations are Greg Nemisz, Voinov and Cuma. I will go with Cuma. He nearly made the NHL club out of camp as an 18 yr old and I expect him in the NHL next year. He is the pick.

23. Buffalo – The sickest team in the history of FHL has two first round picks and the depth to pick up alot more. The have lots of youngsters still up and coming with Cole, Pessonen, Pyett, Kindl, Gerbe, Bonino, Mikkelson developing as prospects. BPA will be the go. Who is that though? Greg Nemisz has been great in Windsor of the OHL. He plays a strong two way game in the mould of a power forward. He is the choice.

24. Montreal – Their only pick of the draft, I would bet it gets moved. If kept. BPA is the go. They could use a great goaltending prospect. McCollum struggled to start the season, but since his trade to the Battallion of the OHL has been on fire. He is the pick.

25. Chicago – 2nd of three picks. With a great dman before, they will be tempted to take a forward. The BPA at this point is Voinov though and make him the pick. An early 2nd round pick in the NHL, he crossed the pond and has played a strong game in the AHL this year. I look for him to make his first appearance in the NHL early next year.

26. Florida – Their third pick. They already have Carlson and Sbisa so the look for a forward. Tedenby slides a fair bit but has jets and may be the second coming of Mats Naslund. He is the pick.

27. Columbus – Their first pick, the team needs a strong draft. Youth is lacking past Parent. Tim always builds a strong club via the draft and fills in his roster with UFA when his corps is established. He has a few years to go. BPA is definitely the go. My list has Grachev, Stefanovich, Gardiner and Allen. How he goes will be preference but I will go with the tender Allen. You have to build from the nets out and Tim starts his build there.

28. New Jersey – My 2nd of 2 first rounders. I will take my BPA. My list is probably a bit different to most but have Gardiner, Grachev and Stefanovich as my top players available. I will take the guy on top of my list. Gardiner has had a strong NCAA freshman campaign on a stacked blueline. He is big and skates like the wind. Sounds like my kind of player.

29. Chicago – George always takes BPA. Grachev and Stefanovich is a coin flip. Both have vaulted up teams draft lists as both have had outstanding seasons. Stefanovich may get an NHL chance earlier as the Leafs stink. He is the pick.

30. Buffalo – Another great pick for a great team. I would not be surprised to see both this clubs picks packaged with a premier forward for a goaltender to replace UFA Brodeur. NJ may be a great trade partner with their goaltending depth and Lundqvist available. If they keep the pick. BPA. Grachev.

So their you go. Debate away at my point of view.

Top 10 Buyers
By: Steve Vardy

As we inch closer to the deadline I present you with a short piece today on the BRHL2 top 10 buyers.  Within this list are some surprise teams and some not so surprise teams.

In determining the list I graded the teams on 4 main categories related to how much of a buyer they are.

Teams were graded on their cap space, with higher grades going to teams with cap space available to add players now, on their tradable assets, with higher grades going to teams with quality tradable assets, on their need to add, with higher grads going to teams with holes to fill or who are on the bubble and really want to make playoffs, on their desire to add, with higher grades going to teams who are built to win now

So without further ado…

#10 New Jersey, 9th East
Cap Space: A++
Tradable Assets: A+
Need to Add: A+
Desire to Add: F

New Jersey is trying to rebuild, but with Lundqvist in nets, they’re winning enough games to keep pace in the Eastern conference.  While they have no desire to be a buyer, if they added a few small pieces they’d actually make the playoffs.

#9 Edmonton, 10th West
Cap Space: B
Tradable Assets: A-
Need to Add: A-
Desire to Add: A

Edmonton are on the bubble in the West, and with a little bit of cap space and some decent assets to add they could make some moves.  Considering that they have quite a few UFA’s, I’d say they are built to win this year and should become buyers to get to that point.  They could use some true top line wingers, and a good backup.

#8 Calgary, 6th West
Cap Space: A
Tradable Assets: A+
Need to Add: A+
Desire to Add: B

I think Calgary are as surprised as anyone that they are where they are.  This team looked to be more of a rebuilder, but they have played well lately and should make the playoffs.  A few key additions and they could make some noise.  They have lots of assets to trade in order to add some scoring punch, but it’s a question of if it makes sense given the direction of the organization.

#7 Carolina, 5th East
Cap Space: B+
Tradable Assets: A-
Need to Add: B
Desire to Add: A+

Carolina have a solid roster, and with a fair bit of cap space, they could become even stronger.  They have assets (picks and prospects) that they could move in order to land some playoff help, which would make sense as they are built to win now with all the pending UFA’s on the team.  Because their roster is strong already they don’t need to add, but 2nd line wingers are something they could add.

#6 Boston, 7th East
Cap Space: A
Tradable Assets: A+
Need to Add: D
Desire to Add: A

The Bruins are a strong organization.  With lots of assets, and a wicked roster they can basically do whatever they want.  The team has very few UFA’s so they don’t NEED to win now, BUT with the addition of Kipper (UFA).  It might make sense to take a run at it this year with him between the pipes.  There are few holes to fill, but if they make an addition it may be in the form of a top pairing D man to play with Phaneuf.

#5 LA, 9th West
Cap Space: C+
Tradable Assets: A++
Need to Add: A++
Desire to Add: C

Wait, what?  LA?  Really?  This team was expected to compete for Stamkos, not a playoff spot.  Somehow they find themselves only a few points back of the 8th seed in the West, and as such they’ve started to add some talent.  They have piles of youth they could move for talent, as they have already done.  Unfortunately, recent moves have added to their salary and they find themselves close to the cap now.  However, with some shuffling they could easily add some more talent to this roster.

#4 San Jose, 4th West
Cap Space: C
Tradable Assets: C
Need to Add: B
Desire to Add: A++

San Jose are looking to win this year.  They have quite a few UFAs, and are positioned to make a strong run at the cup this year.  However, they are tight to the cap.  Their prospect and pick cupboards are pretty bare, but they have some young roster guys they could easily upgrade to better talents for this year.  They don’t have many holes but could make a move to strengthen Ovechkin’s line mates.

#3 Toronto, 4th East
Cap Space: A-
Tradable Assets: B+
Need to Add: A
Desire to Add: A++

Another team who has made very clear their intentions to go for the cup this year.  The Leafs have lots of cap space and quite a few picks/prospects they could move for help this season.  Their prime target is most likely a top line LW, as Clowe isn’t quite a 1st line guy yet.  Probably they’ll just want a rental as Clowe might fit the top line role next year, but it’s a tough call…

#2 St. Louis, 7th West
Cap Space: B+
Tradable Assets: C
Need to Add: B+
Desire to Add: A++

The king of the rumor mill, STL are making lots of moves to improve this year.  They are chock-full of 1-year contracts, and are gearing up to make a push this season.  They have the cap space to add talent, but they don’t have much to offer in trades. Still, STL should be able to pick up a rental or two, keying in on an upgrade to their backup goaltender and potentially a top end defenseman.

#1 Montreal, 8th East
Cap Space: A+ (8.5)
Tradable Assets: B
Need to Add: A+++
Desire to Add: A++

Poor Montreal.  They have begun adding pieces to make a push this season, but next thing you know, down go Ellis and Sabourin.  That leaves them with Jordan Sigalet and Daniel Taylor between the pipes… wait, who??  Exactly.  And to be honest, even with healthy goalies, they could use a better backup than Sabourin.  The Habs don’t have a ton of available assets, but there are a few guys/picks they could move for a rental or two.  They have the cap space, and could really use a goalie (as mentioned) and some more scoring up front.

That’s it for now.  Stay tuned for next week’s article.  Subject TBD.

10 Most Likely to Be Traded
By: Steve Vardy

Below is a list of the 10 players most likely to be traded before the deadline. The list is focused on players who will be traded to contenders. It’s probably not the top 10 list most players were hoping to make, however I am certain there are a few guys stuck on underperforming teams (see Selanne from Phoenix) who are quite happy to be considered likely to be traded. 100 players from 30 different teams were graded on 4 main categories of tradability in order to determine the top 10.

Players were graded on their contract status, with higher grades given for salaries which were affordable. Consideration was also given to the length of the contract, where players who are likely to rerate upwards and are on longer contracts being given higher grades and players who are likely to rerate down and are on short contracts also being given higher grades.

Players were graded on their usability, with higher grades given to players who have good rates, and who can contribute. Higher grades were also given to veteran players who will help in the playoffs.

Players were graded on their availability, with higher grades given to players on teams who are “selling” or where the player just does not fit with the current roster or the direction of the team.

Finally, players were graded on their trade value, with higher grades given to players who will bring a good return for the team trading them, thus increasing the likelihood that the team will trade them.

So without further ado…

#10 Ryan Whitney, PHI, 25, 1 yr, 2.82 M
Contract Status: B
Usability: A-
Availability: A-
Trade Value: A+

Philly is going for the cup, and trading Whitney could bring a big return. The main reason he isn’t higher on the list is that because of his young age and good rates he’s not necessarily a perfect fit for a rebuilding team or a competing team because of his high value.

#9 Jason Smith, OTT, 34, 3 yr, 3.30 M
Contract Status: C+
Usability: A
Availability: A+
Trade Value: B

Smith is on a long enough deal at and OK salary, and because Ottawa is a clear seller he is very available. However, because he’s fairly 1-dimensional, older, and has a 3.3M contract his trade value isn’t huge. However, he is a veteran who will undoubtedly help a contending team in the playoffs.

#8 Jeff Finger, BOS, 28, 3 yr, 850k
Contract Status: A
Usability: B-
Availability: A
Trade Value: B

Boston is trying to give the Finger to anyone they can. Finger is rated as a useable bottom pairing D, and he has the contract to match. He’s signed for a few years and will rerate similar next season so he’s an asset for someone looking for this year and down the line.

#7 Jason Williams, WAS, 27, 5 yr, 1.619M
Contract Status: A+
Usability: A
Availability: B
Trade Value: A

Not many forwards available at the deadline this year, so Williams and his decent ratings will attract a lot of attention. The main reason he’s not rated higher on this list is that it’s gonna cost a lot to get him and team just might not pay it. He has a nice contract, even if he down-rates within the next 5 years.

#6 Adrian Aucoin, FLA, 32, 2 yr, 3.00M
Contract Status: B
Usability: B+
Availability: A+
Trade Value: A

Aucoin brings an intriguing mix of size, intensity, and offence. He’s a pretty useable guy, but is lacking in the DF. His contract is reasonable, and he’ll rerate at good value for the money next year. As such, he has pretty good value, and the FLA being sellers they are trying really hard to move him before the deadline.

#5 Brent Sopel, PIT, 30, 1 yr, 2.40M
Contract Status: C+
Usability: A-
Availability: A+
Trade Value: A

The Pens are desperately trying to get assets for their veterans. A failed attempt to be competitive has the Pittsburgh franchise in serious trouble. They don’t own their first rounder, they are not making the playoffs and they are in big financial trouble. One of their best assets (maybe their best asset) is Sopel, so PIT will certainly try very hard to move him for some desperately needed cap relief and assets.

#4 Jonathan Cheechoo, NJ, 27, 4 yr, 4.00M
Contract Status: C-
Usability: A
Availability: A++
Trade Value: A

Cheechoo has been on the block for a while, and NJ is really looking to ship him out. The biggest stumbling blocks so far have been the return that NJ wants, and his large salary. However, his scoring will really help the secondary scoring for a team looking to pay the price, and it is my belief that someone will pay it before the deadline. Forwards are HARD to find, and thus Cheechoo will be traded.

#3 Andy Sutton, TB, 32, 1 yr, 1.80M
Contract Status: A
Usability: A
Availability: A+
Trade Value: B+

Sutton is a great shutdown defenseman, and would be an excellent asset to any team. However, with all the available defensemen he gets a little lost in the mix. However, he’s an ideal rental, and if TB comes down on the asking price he’ll be a super addition for any team.

#2 Brad Richards, COL, 27, 1 yr, 5.823M
Contract Status: B
Usability: A++
Availability: A-
Trade Value: A+

One of the only high-end guys available. Colorado WILL move Richards if they can get their hands on a starting goalie. Problem is, most teams looking to add Richards are not looking to move a starter. Perhaps a 3-way deal is in order? Richards has huge value, even with the big contract. He is also about the only asset Colorado could move to get the starter they really want (both for cap reasons and value reasons).

#1 Michal Rozsival, VAN, 29, 1 yr, 1.20M
Contract Status: B
Usability: A++
Availability: A
Trade Value: A

Rozsival is one of the best defenseman available, and when you consider his low salary he’s an attractive option for a buying team. However, the asking price is high and so far teams have stayed away from him and opted for other available defensemen. Once the deadline gets closer however and teams begin to panic someone will undoubtedly pay the price for Rozival, he is a great addition and hard to turn down for a serious competing team.

Special Mention: Teemu Selanne, PHO, 37, 1 yr, 1.00M
Contract Status: A
Usability: A++
Availability: --
Trade Value: A

Phoenix refuses to admit that they will not make the playoffs. As such, Selanne is currently unavailable for trade. However, once the management in Phoenix wake up and realize their dream of the playoffs is over, Selanne will be come the best rental player available. With a small contract and great ratings Selanne would be an excellent addition to any team. Considering the lack of forwards available for trade he could bring a solid return for the Coyotes… if they decide to trade him.

Rebuilders at the Trade Deadline
By: Bryan Kirklund

[Editors Note: A March 6th update to this article has been added]

PLAYERS MOVING (IM ALWAYS 100% DONT WORRY THIS WILL HAPPEN)
Anahiem- Pascal Leclaire--- 100% (teams-Minny-Calgary-Tampa-) Matt Stajan-- 80%, teams (Dallas-Carolina-Montreal) Fedor Tyutin 75% (NJ-Florida-Atlanta) Lidstrom 0% (just no one in race with 12 million cap space.)

Kirklund has got solid information saying deals will happen with this team as they look to add to Voracek-Frolik-Backlund-Couture-Brunnstrom-Nillson core with picks and prospects for these players, which would ensure that the teams own pick ended up high in a very deep draft class.

03/06.09 KIRKlund - Leclaire gone, Tyutin gone, STAJAN GONE would make Kirklund 3-3 on picking players getting dealt from anahiem at the deadline.. the teams that could really use a forward like Stajan would be Calgary and Montreal both teams adding for a playoff drive..

Ottawa- Derek Morris-- 80% (NJ-Montreal-LA) Martin Skoula 70% (Atlanta-Buffalo-Boston)-- Jim Vandermeer 60% (Philly-NYR)- Christian Backman 60% (Calgary-LA-Dallas)

03/06.09 KIRKlund has been money in the bag when picking out players leaving Ottawa, Morris, Backman already gone and Skoula-Vandermeer ACTIVELY being shopped..

Kirklund see's one or two more moves in the blow up that has been the Senators..expect picks for these guys mid to late rounds as Botham looks to dominate the draft.

Columbus- Richard Zednik 90% (Carolina-Florida-Calgary) Alex Auld 80% (Carolina-St.Louis) Brendan Witt 80% (LA-EDM-Buffalo) Jan Hejda 75% (Edmonton-LA-Atlanta) Mark Recchi 75% (Carolina-Calgary) Richard Park 75% (Philly-San Jose-Chicago)

03/06.09 KIRKlund sees still no activity.. do the Jackets even have a G.M??? if so they should be rebuilding with what they have to sell right now or else this team will be stuck near bottom for many many years..

Kirklund sees not many prospects or picks or talent and a full on rebuild coming in Columbus..

Nashville- Marek Zidlicky 80% (Calgary-Boston-Edmonton) Fernando Pisani 70% (Carolina-Edmonton-LA) Steve Montador 65% (NJ-LA-Tampa)

03/06.09 KIRKlund gets the feeling he was right on the nose with his guess in Nashville not much happening trade wise.

Kirklund gets the feeling the Predators will move a few guys but remain pretty much the same.

Vancouver- Michal Rosival 100% (UFA to be will be moved. Lots of rumoured teams Philly-Atlanta-San Jose-Boston-Buffalo all rumoured after the cheap two-way UFA) Joe Sakic 0% - See lidstrom-- Dominik Hasek (see sakic)

03/06.09 KIRKlund is shocked the K5 level player M.Rosival hasnt been moved, rumours have the team asking for high end picks in the 2nd and 4th round all for one 18-20 game rental d-man. Kirklund see's deadline night Rosie moving for a 2nd and a 6th-7th round draft pick..Sakic-Hasek remain unmoveable at their salary's

Kirklund's report on other team's at bottom of league.

Pittsburgh- Looking to move anything or anyone but with the salary's is it possible?????????

03/06.09 KIRKlund - Team is selling off every asset they have in order to collect $$ to cover the worst offseason ufa spending spree ever witnessed in FHL..

Washington- Team at bottom of league but wait for next year with J.Neal-S.Mason-K.Turris-D.Brassard-C.Barker-K.Yandle- getting some nice rates to compliment young force's Booth-Stasny-Backstrom-Perry..

03/06.09 KIRKlund see's the caps still waiting for the offseason before making majors changes to their lineup..

Phoenix- Full of UFA's and thinking they can make the playoffs still.

03/06.09 KIRKlund didnt see this one coming, with so many UFA's moved recently this team is looking to next year forsure, Martinek-Lilja-Belanger were all GIVEN away at cheap price, those three could be retraded deadline night as the price will soar again the night the dealing stops for the year..

NYI- Nothing worth aquiring

03/06.09 KIRKlund sees still nothing worth trading for on the Island.

Teams on bubble of playoffs a few small deals with the rebuilders could boost them into the playoffs.

Edmonton- Adding a little depth to both forward and blueline with some of the teams youth could boost team into playoffs only 2 points out.

03/06.09 KIRKlund see's the team going into rebuild mode, but with not many asset at all to move this will be a quiet deadline in OIL country.

LA- 3 points out is not where these guys thought they would be but a few small moves for a pick or prospect could put this team into a playoff spot they never thought possible.

03/06.09 KIRKlund pegged this teams moves, they picked up JS Giguere, M.Hossa, S.Staios, L.Nagy, M.Sillinger all at attempting to make a run for the playoffs... Since then the team has struggled and find themselves back in rebuilder mode. look for all of the previous mentioned guys to be dealt..

Florida-3 points back- Will be adding some firepower to line-up with the UFA Vokoun in the Pipes.

03/06.09 KIRKlund now sees a suprisingly quiet team, no recent deals let Kirklund to believe that the team is happy sitting on the fence between going for playoffs and staying in rebuild mode, Kirklund expects a suprising turn of events and the Cats to strike on deadline day in a big big way.. K5 alert.

NJ- 3 points back- With a good core of players and a very deep prospect list it is unkown why Peter Forsberg is on the trade block- With Forsberg-Lundqvist this team could add a couple quality assets as in Tyutin-Witt and a couple depth guys like Pisani-Montador this team would be able to give a top seed trouble.

03/06.09 KIRKlund now sees a full on rebuild in NJ, forsberg, roberts both gone.. ohland, cheechoo now look like the odd guys out..

Tampa Bay- If the team could pull in a number one goalie for the remainder of the season they could compete to make the playoffs..

03/06.09 KIRKlund didnt see this one coming, Tampa decided to blow apart a decently built franchise in an attempt to rebuild...

Stay tuned in the coming weeks for more KIRKLUND.
